Because of her varied past careers which include, Financial Agent, Director/ Partner in an Export Packing Company, Regional Manager for a Kitchen Design Co. and International Office Manager for the National Geographic Channel, Elaine involved her MP Alan Keen in her own case and from the knowledge gained and by talking to other officials, members and groups, instigated the formation of the current SAFE as the secretariat to an All Party Parliamentary Group Against Financial Exploitation. They gathered statistics, case histories, research, and affiliated with other groups, and formed a Company limited by guarantee, and an operating committee from the various organisations with similar problems, which now with assistance has now built a valuable database, which proves beyond all doubt the need for SAFE. Since the opening of the office several evictions have been avoided, and many hundreds have found valuable help and assistance.
In 1960 he identified a unique business opportunity, namely, the collection, recycling and re-use of waste oil from garages, shipping and industry. By the eighties he had established national and international companies based upon his patented technology. Thereafter he became recognised as a Global Expert in his field being invited to both advise and present papers to World Bank, Institute of Petroleum, International Maritime Organization, corporations and governments throughout the world. During the mid eighties some of his companies and patents were fraudulently stolen causing him to volunteer his experience as a McKenzie/Litigation Friend to scores of others who had become casualties of financial exploitation.
Keith developed his engineering skills, and became a specialist in maintaining, building and developing racing car engines. Keith had built up a substantial business, embracing sales, production, and the employment of staff, during the expansion of his Company. He became a victim of bank malpractice in 1991 which led to the loss of his company, his life’s work, the breakdown of his family life and divorce, also major heart problems, triple bypass and continued ill health. He joined the original SAFE in 1994, the early years when they were a protest group against Barclays Bank, this contributed to the formation of the present organisation bringing with him much experience and knowledge.
