drive home A Win for the consumer on BANK CHARGES

Today, 24th April 2008 while Directors from SAFE were asking question at Barclays AGM Mr Justice Andrew Smith handed down his ruling on the on-going saga of Bank Charges and overcharging.

The ruling gives the Office of Fair Trade ( OFT ) the power to reduce bank charges and rule when they are too high.

DLA PIPER solicitors for LOWELL’S FINANCIAL LIMITED, continue their demand that SAFE removes from its website the 31st August 2007 Annual Return of their client’s subsidiary, Lowell’s Portfolio I Ltd., which as the law prescribes shows the names and addresses of the Officers of Lowell’s.

In November 2007 the officers of the Lowell Group applied to the DTI for exemption from having to display their addresses via Companies House as they feared retaliation from unhappy clients, (A Google of ‘Lowell’s or Red Debt Collections shows there seems to be a lot).

Lowell’s Financial Limited have retained Messrs DLA Piper to ask SAFE to change its website item entitled, “Debt Skeleton in Your Cupboard” which they say;

 

“contains factual inaccuracies which we request are corrected, but also places our client’s directors at risk because of the unauthorised and wholly unwarranted publication on the website of their residential addresses.”

SAFE Submission to Westminster

Before APPG 21.03.07 House of Commons on Tribunals, Courts  and Enforcement Bill 

1.         In this very brief talk, I am going to concentrate on the “Enforcement” part of the Bill.

2.         Brief Background:-

21.       Bailiff law is archaic, confusing and complex.  Professor Beatson QC, Centre for Public Law University of Cambridge, was commissioned in 1992 by the Government to deliver a review to bring this law in line with the 21st century.  As a result, this Bill is now being debated in the House of Commons, having been considered in the House of Lords.
